You never need to worry about running down the battery unnecessarily, if you collapse the lantern with the light on it cleverly shuts off in the closed position to conserve battery life.  The rugged and tough housing is weather-resistant so ideal for heavy-duty use and great also for use outdoors, even with changeable weather conditions.
